Sam Stupp provides scientific leadership to promote Simpson Querrey Institute's mission. He facilitates interdisciplinary research and creates opportunities for collaboration within Northwestern and extending to the national and international arenas. He generates resources and guides development of the research environment and infrastructure necessary for the Institute's success.
Kathy Burgess directs administrative functions and strategic program development at SQI and its affiliated centers. She serves as liaison to institute members, University units, and oversees regulatory compliance, reporting requirements, and assists in grant seeking. She manages SQI's collaborative partnerships, the Catalyst Award program, and domestic and international research exchange programs. She also directs the Institute's communications, marketing, and outreach initiatives.
Dan Carstensen provides general administrative and financial support for the Center for Bio-inspired Energy Science, a Department of Energy sponsored center under SQI. He manages the procurement and reimbursement processes for the center and coordinates the center's daily administrative activities.
Jillian Helding coordinates special projects, major events, and communication and outreach programs at SQI. She supports the Director and works in close collaboration with the SQI leadership team, partner institutions, and the media to market institute programs and implement strategic initiatives.
Catie Hor oversees administrative operations, finance, reporting, and research administration functions for two centers within SQI: Center for Bio-inspired Energy Science, sponsored by the Department of Energy, and the Center for Bio-Integrated Electronics. She manages both Centers' budgets, pre- and post-award activities, payroll, research personnel appointments, visa applications, and other vital administrative activities. She works with the directors to develop programs and implement strategic initiatives within the centers.
Matt Irwin manages SQI's financial and sponsored research activities. He is responsible for proposal submissions and manages budgeting, purchasing, payroll, visa applications, and all other financial activities at the institute.
Mark Karver manages the SQI Peptide Synthesis Core Facility. He provides peptide synthesis, purification, and mass spectrometry-based services for researchers at Northwestern and the local academic community, and provides training and consultation on related technical matters.
Alexandra Kolot manages the Analytical bioNanoTechnology Equipment Core (ANTEC), the Nanomedicine Cleanroom, and maintains all laboratory facilities at SQI. She works with investigators, research personnel, staff, and vendors to solve operating problems and improve technical activities. She also oversees installation and maintenance of laboratory equipment and provides training for new users of ANTEC and the Cleanroom.
Todd Linton provides financial support for the Institute. He processes financial transactions, including recharge billing for the Institute's core facilities, assists with grant proposals, and processes visa applications.
Mark McClendon serves as liaison for starting new collaborative projects on campus and abroad. He provides technical and logistical guidance to the Institute's researchers aiming to translate their research projects into the clinic. He also assists in coordinating patents and intellectual properties.
Liam Palmer provides technical leadership and serves as the scientific liaison for the team. He directs the implementation of strategic actions to ensure alignment with the Institute's scientific objectives. He also coordinates scientific highlights and technical reporting requirements.

Mark Seniw assists the institute with research-related design projects and IT support.
Christopher Tarczynski provides automated peptide synthesis and preparative HPLC Peptide Synthesis services. He also maintains stock reagents and supplies for the Peptide Synthesis Core Facility, provides new users with training about the HPLC column, and assists with training and instrument maintenance in ANTEC.
Emily Testa provides automated peptide synthesis, preparative and analytical HPLC, and mass spectrometry-based services. She also trains users, provides technical assistance, and plans, troubleshoots, executes general and custom peptide projects involving non-standard modifications, and maintains instrumentation.
Maura Walsh oversees administrative and operational functions of the institute and its affiliated centers, provides support for the directors, and facilitates communication with high-level internal and external contacts. She coordinates SQI events, meetings, and itineraries for the directors and institute guests. To broaden awareness of SQI and its impact on research, she manages SQI's websites, creates advertising materials for specials events, and designs marketing and outreach materials that publicize the research and activities sponsored by the institute.
